Musical Team Session

For teams that want to collaborate and play together more effectively

A unique session with your team around the piano, with lots of interaction and humor. But also emotion, because music touches you. In the more intimate sessions, everyone is heard, just like in music, where every voice counts. What are your colleagues actually listening to? What does that say? And how can you use that to collaborate more effectively? This way you get to know your colleagues in a completely different way and you will play together better.

Musical Team Session

In a team, each individual has their own role, similar to different instruments in an orchestra. How do you tune in to each other? How do you ensure that everyone is heard?

The themes from the keynote about collaboration come to life in the team session. Recognizable, applicable and always with room for interaction and reflection.

Common goal

When you make music together, you have a common goal. To achieve that goal, you must take responsibility for your own part. But that is not enough. You must also listen carefully to what the others are doing and respond to it. Who takes the initiative? Who follows? Do you dare to make your own voice heard? And do you give others enough space to shine as well? What do you do if everything is completely out of sync?

Dissonants

Music without dissonance is boring. Beautiful sounds, but no tension, no emotion, no story. This also applies to organizations and teams without dissonance. It is precisely when things occasionally grate and clash that space is created for growth, development and innovation.

Communication

Good collaboration stands or falls with communication. Do we speak the same language? Music is a universal language that everyone understands and is therefore a wonderful example. Musical communication is about:

Are we hearing the same song?

Are we playing the same music?

What do you do if things don’t go as planned?

Synergy

Your melody is already beautiful solo, but imagine that it is perfectly balanced with a supporting bass line, an energetic rhythm section or a punchy horn section? Then 1 plus 1 suddenly becomes 3, or 10, or even 100. Music is a brilliant example of synergy, as you would also like to see in your team. That sounds good, but it doesn’t happen automatically. In this team session, we go through the steps that musicians also take to come to the most beautiful harmony together.

Passion

You need passion for good music. Perhaps that applies everywhere you want to rise above average. You play music from your heart. It works like a highway from your head to your heart. Collaboration from your heart leads to deeper connection, more creativity and it gives more satisfaction.

Playing

Musicians don’t say they’re going to work, they’re going to play. Playing means creativity, fun and intrinsic motivation. Working quickly sounds like obligation, structure and effort. Suppose you start playing more and working less from now on? Collaboration then becomes playing together. Doesn’t that immediately sound like music to your ears?

Play from your heart

nicolaas duin quote

There is a lot to say about music as a metaphor, but you should also experience it. During the team session, I let the team sing together. Polyphonic. That is quite uncomfortable, between your colleagues. But in no time it sounds great. It gives you a kick and is a special lesson in dealing with change, listening to each other, daring to make your voice heard and making connections.

For whom?

  • Teams that want to play together better
  • Teams looking for inspiration
  • Teams in a change process
  • Teams that reflect on a kick-off or closing of a project
  • Suitable for retreats, strategy sessions, brainstorming sessions or team building

What can you expect?

  • Customization. In an extensive preliminary discussion, we determine the direction and content
  • Lots of interaction, lots of energy, lots of fun
  • Every voice is heard, just like in music
  • Music as a powerful metaphor that no one will forget

“As a keyboard player, I stood on the biggest stages, often hidden on the side. From there I had a perfect overview of the stage. The collaboration between musicians has always fascinated me. How they keep an eye on each other, how they respond to each other, how they trust each other and how they make the most beautiful music in this way.

But also the collaboration between the notes we play is enchanting. How those tones reinforce each other, but sometimes also clash. A game between tension and relaxation. Music is therefore the resounding proof of collaboration on all levels.

What struck me: the insights I gained in music for years are surprisingly easy to translate to organizations. That is why I now work as a musical speaker in communication, collaboration and leadership.”

Because that is what music provides. And research shows time and again: connection leads to more effective collaboration.

Because then it suddenly turns out that your manager plays hard Heavy metal in his car…

Music gives energy and gets you moving. But often it also strikes a chord. Especially in smaller, more intimate sessions.

The reactions are praising. People look back on it with pleasure and talk about it for a long time afterwards.

music speaks”

Music is a language. A language that touches you, even without knowing the words or rules. A language that sets things in motion and connects people, just like collaboration and leadership do. That’s why, as a musical speaker on collaboration & leadership, I use this most beautiful language there is.
