Keynote Leadership Speaker

‘It’s the tone that makes the music’

What does music have to do with leadership? More than you think. Anyone who has ever played an instrument knows how much discipline, perseverance, and consistency it takes.

But music and leadership go beyond technique. It’s about timing, harmony, vision, culture, identity, expression, dynamics, emotional connection, and impact. As a leadership speaker, I show how music not only touches you but also sets you in motion. The perfect mirror for how you lead.

Leadership Keynote

‘C’est le ton qui fait la musique’. And that also applies to leadership. But how do you set the tone? How do you strike the right chord? How do you literally get people moving? As a leadership speaker, I let you experience that in a keynote that resonates, surprises, and touches.

As a Leadership Speaker, I use music to make you listen differently, tune in more sharply, and improvise with more courage. This keynote has it all: live music, interaction, recognition, and positive energy. Together we seek answers to questions such as:

  • How do you get people on board with change?
  • How do you maintain balance between giving direction and allowing space?
  • And what do you do if the tempo suddenly changes?

Playing together

As a leader, you have to deal with different characters, egos, and voices. How do you turn that cacophony into a coherent whole? How do you set the tone, strike the right chord, guard the dynamics, and keep people happily playing together? In other words, how do you deal with change?

Change is like a new melody: exciting, unexpected, sometimes even painful. How do you deal with the unknown? How do you get people on board? In this keynote, as a musical leadership speaker, I show how insights from music help to take people along in movement, transition, and innovation. We explore how insights from music are surprisingly easily translated into the business world. “It’s the tone that makes the music”.

Comfort zone

Music can get people moving very quickly. I’d rather let you experience how that works than explain it. During the keynote, we step out of the comfort zone: we sing, polyphonically, live accompanied on piano. At first, that feels uncomfortable, but soon something special arises.

You see what happens with every change. Some go along with it immediately, others need some time, and there are always a few who drop out. And that’s okay. It is precisely those differences that make the process powerful. Even resistance has value. Maybe those are the dissonants.

Dissonants are clashing frequencies. In music, and in teams and organizations. Yet they are indispensable. Without dissonants, there is no tension, color, direction, or innovation. As a leadership speaker, I let you hear why they are needed and how to deal with them as a leader.

Emotion

Change evokes emotion and resistance. Many leaders find that exciting. But leadership is about people, and therefore about emotion. In my musical keynote, I show how to deal with it in a powerful and safe way, with insights that are directly applicable to your leadership.

The beauty of music is that every voice counts. Literally. Good leaders ensure that everyone is heard, including the second violin or triangle. If voices do not feel heard, they become unbalanced, frustrated, or deliberately play out of tune. As a leadership speaker, I let you experience with this keynote what that does in a team and how you have influence on it.

Connection

Emotion sets things in motion, and that is precisely what is needed for change. Good music doesn’t let you sit still, but sets something in motion. In this keynote, you will discover how music does that and how you can translate that to your own organization. And not unimportantly: music immediately creates connection in the room. You can feel it.

As a bandleader with artists such as Henk Poort and Danny de Munk and as a musical director with national productions, I always had the idea that my work was completely different from that of friends with ‘normal’ jobs.

Until I discovered: wherever people work together, the same themes play out. Leadership is about listening, tuning in, giving space, and maintaining direction. Just like in music.

As a leadership speaker, I don’t tell you how it should be done. But I do let you look from a different perspective. And listen.

It’s not the notes you play,
it’s the notes you don’t play.”

Music is a language. A language that touches you, even without knowing the words or rules. A language that sets things in motion and connects people, just like collaboration and leadership do.
